Rolando Coto


Rolando is a lecturer in Sociophonetics at Victoria University of Wellington, where he works in the Linguistics and the Statistics departments. He recently finished his PhD in Linguistics at the University of Arizona, and he has over 7 years of experience working with language revitalization and technology with communities in Arizona, Mexico, Bolivia and Costa Rica. This includes projects studying the linguistic landscapes of Indigenous languages, the connection between language, land and culture, and language surveys and the spatial distribution of the use of Indigenous languages. Rolando has collaborated in Indigenous mapping projects at AILDI, and is part of the Google Earth Outreach Trainers Network.
